Questions about the buildings

Which type of wood should I choose for my building?

The choice of wood species for your building is related to both aesthetic preferences and sustainability factors. At MyWoodBuildKit, we offer four different types of wood, each with unique properties and sustainability classes:'

  • American oak (Quercus rubra) and European oak (Quercus robur), both with durability class 2, are ideal for a robust, rustic appearance.
  • European douglas (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and fine spruce (Picea abies), with sustainability class 3, offer a lighter finish that fits well with modern, sleek designs.

The choice of a specific type of wood not only affects the appearance of your building but also how the wood naturally grays over time, especially if no after-treatment is applied. Each of these types of wood contributes to the unique aesthetics of your project, while all of them offer a high degree of durability, especially when protected by roofing and cladding.

For more detailed information about the visual and functional aspects of our types of wood, we refer you to our page on types of wood. Here you will find all the necessary details to make an informed choice that matches your personal taste and the style of your home.

We are always excited to see the final result, so don't forget to show us the transformation of your building!

How sustainable and ecological are your buildings?

The sustainability of our buildings is partly determined by the chosen type of wood and the finish. Each type of wood has its own sustainability class, which you can find on our website. Our types of wood range from sustainability class 2 (for both types of oak) to class 3 (for European douglas and spruce). The choice of wood type and finish does not affect the lifespan of the building after finishing, which provides protection against weather influences such as sun, rain, snow, and wind.

At My Wood Build Kit, we are also committed to sustainable and ecological production. We minimize waste, disturb the forest as little as possible, and manage our own nature reserve to support nature. For more information about our sustainable practices and our commitment to ecological responsibility, we refer you to our page on sustainable craftsmanship and information about our nature reserve.

What do the sustainability classes mean?

Sustainability classes, as defined by the European standard EN 350.2, indicate the lifespan and resistance to fungi or wood rot of wood species used in Europe. These classes are based on a test in which a piece of wood measuring 50×50 mm is partially placed in the ground. The lifespan of the heartwood in these conditions determines the sustainability class. Below is an overview of the classes used in Belgium:

  • Sustainability class 1: Very sustainable (more than 25 years).
  • Sustainability class 2: Sustainable (15 to 25 years).
  • Sustainability class 3: Moderately sustainable (10 to 15 years).
  • Sustainability class 4: Low sustainability (5 to 10 years).
  • Sustainability class 5: Not sustainable (less than 5 years).

It is important to mention that softwood always belongs to class 5 and is therefore considered not durable.

For each of our buildings, we clearly indicate to which sustainability class it belongs, so that you can make an informed choice based on the expected lifespan and sustainability of the wood.

Do you provide a guarantee on the buildings?

At My Wood Build Kit, we strive for the highest quality standards in our products. While we have confidence in the durability and construction quality of our buildings, it is important to mention that the actual lifespan of a building depends on various factors. This includes weather influences, the method of construction, and how the building is used.

Therefore, no absolute rights can be derived from the specified lifespan. We recommend handling the building with care and paying attention to proper maintenance and protection against weather influences to maximize its lifespan. Questions about the delivery

How quickly can you deliver?

At My Wood Build Kit, we follow an efficient delivery procedure, allowing us to deliver our wood construction packages to you at lightning speed. Our standard delivery time is within 14 days after ordering.

This fast delivery is possible because we keep all models in stock. By manufacturing our products on a large scale and maintaining an extensive inventory, we can significantly shorten the time between order and delivery. This ensures a smooth and efficient service, allowing you to quickly get started on your construction project.

How will my timber construction package be delivered?

Your timber construction package will be delivered by a truck equipped with a tail lift, a mobile forklift, to ensure the delivery goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible. This allows us to place your package directly at the desired location, provided the conditions permit.

The transport company will contact you no later than one working day before delivery to arrange a suitable time. It is important that the location is accessible for a large truck and that there is enough space for the tail lift to maneuver.

We work with external carriers; a parcel service for smaller orders and a freight company for pallet transport. We ask you to be reachable by phone on the day of delivery for any questions from the driver.

PLEASE NOTE! If the delivery address is located in a "zero emission zone", we kindly ask you to inform us in advance so that we can arrange a suitable solution for the delivery in a timely manner.

If you have specific questions about the delivery or preparations that need to be made for the receipt of your timber construction package, please feel free to contact our customer service. We are ready to assist you and ensure that your delivery goes as smoothly as possible.

How much do your packages weigh?

The weight of our timber construction packages varies depending on the chosen wood type. Here is an overview of the average weight per cubic meter (kg/m3) for each wood type we offer:

  • American oak (Quercus rubra): approximately 710 kg per m3
  • European oak (Quercus robur): approximately 680 kg per m3
  • European douglas (Pseudotsuga menziesii): approximately 610 kg per m3
  • Norway spruce (Picea abies): approximately 460 kg per m3

These weights are indicative and are important for the planning of your assembly, including the number of people required for lifting and positioning the components.

In the specifications of each building on our website, we mention both the total weight, the cubic meters of wood, and the dimensions of the package. This helps you estimate the size and weight of the package you will receive, so you can prepare for the assembly properly.

Is the packaging of a package waterproof?

Our packages are intentionally not provided with a foil. This is to prevent mold formation, which can occur due to condensation between the wood and the foil. This risk is particularly present when packages are stored on a concrete floor without a protective underlayer. The packages are carefully stacked and equipped with binding strips and intermediate battens, which is essential for good ventilation and helps maintain the optimal condition of the wood.

We advise to store the package in a covered and well-ventilated space until you are ready for assembly. This protects the wood from weather influences and prevents mold, ensuring it is in the best condition when you start building.

Should I assemble my building immediately after delivery?

Your package can be stored indefinitely in a well-ventilated and covered space until assembly. Ensure that this space provides sufficient air circulation to prevent condensation and mold formation.

The package is equipped with support blocks that keep it off the ground and thin wooden wedges between the beams for internal air circulation. Leave both the blocks and the wedges in place until you start assembling.

If you have questions about storage or assembly, our customer service is ready to advise and support you.

Questions about the assembly

Can I do this myself?

Assembling your wooden construction package yourself is certainly possible, especially if you have some handy skills and basic tools. Our packages are designed to make the assembly process as simple and clear as possible. We provide a detailed step-by-step plan and instructions, making it perfectly feasible to build your building yourself.

It is important to consider whether you have enough help and the right tools, especially for handling the heavier parts. For more complex aspects such as the foundation, it may sometimes be advisable to hire a professional.

What plans are included with your packages?

Each of our timber construction packages comes with a comprehensive set of assembly plans. These plans include detailed instructions and a ground plan where you can find the exact positions for placing the posts. It is crucial to carry out these preparatory works accurately and carefully for a successful build.

Additionally, you will find a QR code on each package. When you scan this code, you will gain immediate access to digital versions of all the necessary plans and instructions. This digital access makes it even easier to have the required information on hand during assembly.

We have carefully designed our plans to make the assembly as clear and simple as possible. If you have any questions or uncertainties during the assembly, our customer service is ready to support and guide you where necessary.

How many people do I need to set up my building?

The required manpower for the assembly of your timber construction package depends on the chosen type of wood and the size of the building. We recommend deploying enough people to ensure that the assembly proceeds smoothly and safely. Also consider using a lifting aid, such as a forklift or mobile crane, especially if you choose a type of wood that has heavier beams.

Here is a guideline for the required manpower, depending on the type of wood:

  • American oak (Quercus rubra): 4 people
  • European oak (Quercus robur): 4 people
  • European douglas (Pseudotsuga menziesii): 2-3 persons
  • Norway Spruce (Picea abies): 2 people

If you are unsure or if the location is inaccessible for a lifting aid, it is important to schedule additional manpower. This ensures a more efficient and safer assembly. Keep in mind that the nature of the work can be physical, so make sure that all involved are able to work safely and take the appropriate precautions.

How much time should I allocate for setting up my building?

The time required to set up your timber construction package depends on the size and design of the building. Here are some general guidelines that can help you plan the assembly:

  • For a building of 2 to 3 cubic meters (m3): Reserve an average of two days for the assembly, provided that the structure is already near the assembly site.
  • For a larger building of 4 to 5 cubic meters (m3): Plan 3 to 4 days for the complete assembly.

These time estimates may vary based on the complexity of the structure, the experience of the installers, and the number of people available for the assembly. Larger buildings may take more time due to the height and weight of the components, making the assembly physically more demanding.

It is important to proceed carefully and methodically to avoid mistakes and ensure safety.

Do you provide screws or nails?

No, our timber construction package is delivered excluding fastening materials such as wooden dowels, nails, and screws. This is because the specific requirements for fastening materials can vary greatly depending on the individual preferences and needs of the customer.
